GeoThermal Panel
Do you want the comfort of a radiant floor, but without adding carbon to the atmosphere? Use a ground source heat pump to power your hydronic radiant system. The HydroNex GeoThermal panel ties a water/water ground source heat pump to a radiant heating system.
Patent Pending, and an industry first, this panel comes with a pre-wired outdoor reset control. This control allows the heat pump to operate at the lowest possible water outlet temperature, ensuring maximum efficiency and compressor life. As the temperature outside drops, the control automatically ramps up the outlet temperature from the heat pump.
This innovative approach results in dramatic energy savings, compared to the use of standard set point controls, where the heat is almost always working harder than it needs to.
The hydronic system must be carefully designed to not require use of water greater than 110oF to 115oF; the upper limit of most heat pumps. Use our RadiantWorks Software to verify maximum required system temperatures.
This panel is designed to be used with standard hot water heater tanks for thermal buffer/storage. The buffer tanks eliminate short-cycling of the heat pump, extending compressor life. This also gives the building owner the manual option of having emergency heat capacity.

Standard equipment on the GeoThermal panel includes:
    • pre-wired pumps
    • 1” Spring Check valves on supply and return to the heat pump
    • Isolation ball valves for field-service of each pump
    • Pre-wired Tekmar 256 outdoor reset control
    • Cat5e cable connection for communication with other HydroNex panels
    • Pre-wired system solenoid valve
    • Temperature and pressure gauges
    • White, powder-coated steel enclosure with cover
Controls
The heat pump will only run when the temperature of the buffer tanks falls below the weather responsive control setpoint. If there is no call for heat from the system, the solenoid valve will remain closed, directing hot water into the buffer tanks, until the required temperature is met. Whenever the radiant system calls for heat, the solenoid valve will open, automatically allowing hot water to flow from the tanks and/or from the heat pump.
All controls come completely pre-wired and tested. The only field wiring required is the outdoor reset sensor, heat pump connection, and the plug and play Cat5e connection to the other HydroNex panels.
This panel is designed to be installed with a PMan or PAuto HydroNex Primary Panel; and a DDirect Panel for load zone control. It is not a stand alone panel. It is suitable for use on up to six ton water/water geothermal heat pumps. See the design/installation manual or contact us for free design assistance.
